Note: I’m using the USA version of Pokemon Fire Red. I have not tested with other regions. First I played about 1 hour of Pokemon Fire red.

If you're homebrew capable you can extract your older gen saves using TWLSaveTool.
TWLSaveTool is a 3DS homebrew that allows you to read, write, and erase save files from NDS cartridges (just like savegame-manager!)
