Correct me if I am wrong Patricia, but I think she is asking is there another programme (alternative to flash player) a home user can download for our laptops, that will allow Facebook and other web based games to play properly? Since I uninstalled adobe flash player, a couple of days ago, playing any game on facebook etc is dreadful. All you computer experts, talk in a language a lot of us, who are pre- 1980 don’t understand, as we did not have computers in schools etc. I got one of the first mass produced dial up computers when I was around 30!     Try going to microsoft and/or look for Scan and Capture software. I had same issue with HP solution center and downloaded S&C. only problem is you have to go into programne list and click it instead of going through HP solution center…actuall a better and quicker way to scan

12. Hi Susy. Rob here. I’ve spent hours researching this and spoken with HP. Solution Center is gone. Without Flash it won’t work and Flash is gone. It’s probable your local computer folk won’t be able to help unless they have a pirate copy of flash they can load. If you are running WIN 10…no way that’s possible. There is no replacement for Flash. There are work arounds that require multiple doc handling but no “one stop shopping” like we had in Solution Center…and no comparable functionality. 16. This is so un-cool. To discontinue a product with nothing user friendly to replace it is negligent to say the least. All the games I’ve played to relax and pass the time are gone. I can still play games on my cell phone, what are they doing differently from the laptop?

17. I tried to pay a parking ticket and the parking web site will not work because Adobe Flash expired. This truly is a public relation nightmare for Adobe. I was in IT and I have read case studies on some software calamities over the years but this one takes the cake. I will be interested to read the case study in years to come. Beware Adobe … you’ve riled a parking company 🙂 PS: I have an alternative to pay by cheque.

18. For years I’ve used various versions of the old Rolex screensavers on my eight computers. They featured a cool watch (model of your choice) that kept time based on the computer’s timeclock. Apparently, the all used Flashplayer and suddenly quit working a few days ago. 22. My son can’t finish his Korean exam at college because it was supported by flash. None of the audio reply questions. The professors probably didn’t notice the three year notice either. The main thingb i think alot of the responders are missing is, Adobe has been telling your websites that you play games etc. off of that this has been coming for 3 years. those sites have had 3 years to get things changed. There are updates made to the background on websites constantly, and a games or feature bei9ng switched over to a new system should be almost invisible to a user of a website. So that even the person who knows nothing except the power button even on a computer would still be able to do what they did before. A User should not notice anything new when you change a site except “hey thi8s is nice, it works better” or whatever.

    So if you have a site or something that dont work, there is usually a link at the bottom of a page that says contact developer,web master, or something. click that and tisk tisk them. or the contact us page most sites have will work too. they have had 3 years to do something. yell at them.

    I understand you’re pretty upset that you might not be able to play some games. However, it isn’t the responsibility of Adobe to support your games. It is the responsibility of publishers to author the games in prevalent, relevant standards, up-to-date standards, rather than relying on technology that arguably should have been killed off a decade ago.

    I’m not sure you understand who Adobe are. “Out of luck and ultimately out of business”? Their core business isn’t distributing a free media player plugin for people to play games with. They are the people behind the software that graphic designers, video editors, game designers, web designers, lithographic print houses, in fact the vast majority of the creative industry rely on. They employ over 20,000 people globally, they are worth over $200 billion. They don’t NEED the support of the local public like you – how do you think downloading a free plugin is core to their revenues? With the exception of a few rebels who don’t want to pay their Adobe CC license fee that use alternatives like Affinity Designer (I’d rather use pencil and paper to be honest) the vast majority of creative professionals use Adobe on a daily basis. No one called Larry or Sergei is about to dethrone them.

    This isn’t a dumb move. Not at all. Flash was appalling. Good riddance. Your games will be redistributed in a better, more secure, faster, up-to-date standard and you’ll be able to whittle away the hours soon enough and you’ll forget this even happened, whilst Adobe continue to make the software that a massive industry relies on daily.

    I am a teacher and currently trying to live teach from home. I’m making a powerpoint where I would usually add a hyperlink to a short video. When checking my powerpoint, the hyperlink wouldn’t work and it took me to the EOL flash player etc. I’ve uninstalled but surely this isn’t the only way I can get a YouTube hyperlink to play? I didn’t know anything about this EOL.

29. Kixeye War Commander shifted to HTML5. Performance is spotty and does not compare to the smoothness of gaming using Flash. Security? You can always make something secure. Switching over to HTML5 is born from laziness. Flash is way better for gaming in every respect. A shame that it is not supported. It appears not. You don’t point out the lunacy of claims that Flash had security risks as if any other platform or computer based system can’t be hacked – and regularly by bored 12 year olds. No Adobe shut it down because the big players saw vector graphics as a threat to their ever expanding empire of growth for bitmaps images because they can charge you for the increasingly egregious amount of bandwidth that it takes to display them.
    Kind of like the oil companies, steel companies and automotive companies had which will also die when electric cars become the norm.

    There is much more to this story but just be sure to note – Flash developed as a means fir creative people to build artistic applications WITHOUT PROGRAMMING. A purely aesthetic platform. As programmers inveigled their way into it (i.e. Adobe bought Macromedia) it became more and more programmatic until it emerged as Flex – a godAwful mashup of object oriented “Java wannabe” code libraries that slowly squeezed the graphic designers and other creatives out of the loop unless they had the cahones to step up and program – I was one of them. I have developed literally hundreds of apps, interactive web sites, “video chat with your doctor” platforms and business tools in Flash and Flex for AT&T, H&R Block, Capital One and others.

    There was nothing wrong with Flash that didn’t involve Adobe’s eventual surrender to the evil empire and backpedaling on a proven platform for designers in favor of programmers. Those security risk are “bullpucky” – it is a hoax.

    Vector Graphics will return – and it will not be WebGL – another programming horror show.

34. No Enzo meant “vector graphics” will be back. First they killed Videotex (naplps) then they killed Flash. But vector graphics will prevail because, unlike bitmapped graphics, it is 99% compressible and infinitely encrypt-able if you take the time and due diligence ( i.e. are not lazy) to do it.

    Oh and did I mention? It need not involve ANY programming! ;P

35. I am in the same boat as the teacher above. I have downloaded powerpoint presentations as well as made my own that have embedded videos and now none of them wil open- I get the message to download the newest Flash, which I had dutifully uninstalled, not understanding that it would destroy my ability to present to my students. Is there a way to open these using some other method? I could not care less about gaming- I just need to teach my CPR classes. Being retired I was never told that these would not work anymore. I assume that if my powerpoints were not created with one of the alternatives like HTML5 that I can not use those to open them?

38. I have a HP C4480 Printer/Scanner that is unable to function correctly without Adobe Flash & Internet Explorer, both removed by a Microsoft update. When trying to contact Hp re this I am advised to ‘download these’, but that is not a good idea even if one could, if they no longer work! Can Microsoft or some other tech. fix or advise, I love my printer, it worked perfectly before this.

    I have not uninstalled Flash player yet. Because of the dire Flash EOL warnings, I haven’t tried using it. Is it possible to use it relatively safely if completely offline (with WiFi, Bluetooth, cellular data, etc. all turned off)?

    If so, if it’s used, what’s the worst that could happen? They say “security issues” – but if it’s only used while offline could it still be used without danger of being hacked remotely?

    Is there a security issue with having Adobe Flash Player installed but not using it?

    I ask this knowing, of course, that no one can guarantee safety especially when Adobe warned of security issues. Just wondering what exactly those issues are.

    (I’m skipping explaining the background here – suffice it to say that I have many .swf files I’d like to view & prior to EOL, I could do so offline.)
